The Animal Welfare League of Montgomery County was founded in February of 1965 as a private non-profit Humane Society. The AWL is dedicated to promoting responsible pet ownership and to teach respect for all living things. Funding for the Animal Welfare League is received through grants, donations, bequests and services paid for by Montgomery County and municipalities of Montgomery County for animal control. As a non-profit facility, the shelter is dependent on volunteers and donations from the public for its survival. Our mission is to save lives, to prevent pain, fear, and suffering along with providing sanctuary and permanent homes for the unwanted, lost and neglected as well as to strongly encourage control of pet over population through education. The AWL truly believes that the way we treat those without the ability to speak for themselves is truly a measure of our society.
